This is the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Recruitment Video. The project took just under a year to do from pre-production with scripts, shot list, equipment, and scheduling. Then actually following through with it during the warmer months in the summer of 2011 to post production the fall.
For this project we used two Canon 7D’s with an assortment of lens. We use a Tamron 70-200mm 2.8, Canon 70-200mmL 2.8, Canon 28mm 2.8, Canon 50mm 1.4, Nikor 50mm 1.4, Sigma 24-60mm 2.8, Tokina 11-16mm 2.8.
We made a shoulder rig to get a lot of the action shots, otherwise we only used monopods, tripods and a 3ft pocket dolly for the moving shots.
A few of the shots that are mounted on the Deputies cruisers where shot with a GoPro HD with the car mount.
Even though I feel the video should have some voice over at the beginning of the video, this is how the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office wanted it to look like and they say we exceeded their expectations ten fold.
The Video was Produced by me, Greg Grosse under the 5 City/21 Sports banner.
It was shot by Greg Grosse and Josh Anstey
The lower thirds where made in Cinema 4D by my friend Kevin Reguse

brandon+andrea (Same Day Edit)
This was the first same day edit by FULLFORM. It went pretty successful, my partner and I took it one with a 7D workflow. The edit itself took about three hours to edit and about 30 minutes to export. When doing same day edit with native h.264 you need to click the box in Final Cut Pro when exporting to re-compress all render files. If you don’t click that box you will run into problems and glitches during transitions and just with general problems with the video files playing back……even after the exported .mov file is complete.
Here is our gear…give or take
We had three Cannon 7D cammeras, two cannon 70-200mm L 2.8, a Tamron 70-200 2.8, two 50mm 1.4 prime, a 24mm 2.8 prime, a sigma 24-60mm 2.8. We had an assortment of tripods, two monopods, one slider, a Zoom H4N, and one wireless system.
This same day edit was great! It was for a great couple who just absolutely love the video. It is not everyday you can make someone cry because they love the work you have done. It’s a good feeling. Either way not even 48 hours later the bride was already asking to see it again so it must have ment a lot to her. I hope FULLFORM is able to do more of these and share them with you.
If you have an questions about gear, editing, my general workflow and how I manage to finish this video in three hour, please feel free to comment below or email me at greggrosse@gmail.com
FULLFORM is going to be doing its first Same Day Edit wedding film package September 10th. We needed to invest/rent some equipment to do this job. Instead of renting a projector screen for about $100-$150 for a weekend, we found a projector screen on Craigslist for only $40. It is a 50” x 50” screen. It is on the smaller end of what we where looking for to rent but 50”x50” for $40 is cheaper than renting a 60”x60” or a 76”x76” for $150. It’s not the newest screen out there and it has a little tear in one corner but it is not on the screen, just the boarder. It is always a nice surprise when things work out and save you money. Hopefully our SDE goes as smooth as this did and I will be posting the SDE here a day or two after the wedding.
I am currently working on a recruitment video for the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office in Nebraska. I am using two Cannon 7D’s. The project is about to wrap up shooting, with only about 2 shots left its practically wrapped up on the shooting end of things. I will be posting the video on here as soon as it is done. I may be posting a trailer or the Introduction of the video as soon as it is completed.
However, as of now I am just organizing all of the footage and syncing up all the interviews and statements for the video. If you have any questions about equipment used, shooting, editing, or anything about this project and how I did/am doing it, feel free to ask.
Above are just some snap shots I grabed of some of the footage so you can get an idea of the look I went for when shooting. They may not be the best snap shots because there is a lot of footage but it should at least give an idea of the look of this recruitment video.
Trying this again
Highly doubt anyone has been following me or checking in on this thing. However, to give myself a little project, I am going to serioulsy begin posting on this, in hope that someone may start following and be interested in what projects I am working on, equipment I am using, how I shoot and edit things, and general thoughts and feelings about Shooting and Editing. Starting this week I will be posting more with photos, videos, and equipment talk.
LSO interviews. Two 7D’s and some amazing interviews……video to come soon
This was my first DIY project for my Canon 7D. This shoulder rig came to a total cost of about $40. This includes the 18 pack of tall boys as payment of him helping me with the building of the shoulder rig.
The parts to make this was a cutting board, Aluminum Piping, numerous nuts and bolts. I also bought bike handles for the handles for the shoulder rig. So far I haven’t had any problems with these bike handles. It also included Foam padding and Spray Adhesive.
As you can tell, this shoulder rig has multiple 1/4 bolts to add on extras, such as lights, audio recorders, almost anything that attaches to a tripod or hot shoe. As far as I can tell this shoulder rig is as strong and as durable as any shoulder rig I have seen or had the chance to use, except for RedRock, then again you pay for what you get with those………..I don’t have thousands of dollars to spendo n a shoulder rig. This shoulder rig can/will have eventual adjustments and I will post those as problems/adjustments arise.
The first project I will be using this on is in two weeks on March 15th, with the Lancaster County Sherif for some SWAT training exercises. I will make sure to post about how well or how poorly the rig works.
Well I didn’t land the independent Project with the County Sheriff. Looks like I will be doing this under the 5 City Productions, even though the only changes will be smaller pay and wont invest in a GoPro Hero cam. I know, I was looking forward to getting one too. still excited to do this project could be worthy of a demo reel and always another example of my possibilities.
I just won two free tickets to Nebrasketball for Saturdays game! I haven’t posted anything in a while so I figured this was about the only thing new worth posting. GBR!
